Reiki Without Touching

Reiki Without Touching

Most people are surprised to find out that Reiki does not require touch at all, and that it can work just as well from across the room or across the country. Some of my most powerful sessions happen with my hands hovering just above the body. So let's walk through what that actually looks like, covering both how I work in person and how distance sessions function, because "energy healing without contact" might sound mysterious until you have felt it!

Hovering vs Holding

In an in-person session, I work with a blend of light resting touch and hands hovering just above you. Which one I use depends on what your body seems to be asking for in the moment. Sometimes a gentle, still hand resting on the shoulder or cradling the head is exactly the grounding, reassuring presence that helps you settle. Other times, especially over areas that feel tender, activated, or simply private, hovering is the kinder choice; the energy still flows, but with a sense of spaciousness and ease that lets you soften without feeling worked on.

Hovering also tends to surprise people the first time. Many clients report feeling distinct sensations under my hands even when there is no contact at all; warmth, a gentle pulling or magnetic quality, tingling, or a deep wave of relaxation moving through them. This is the reiki as it tends to the body and invites it into that calm, grounded, at-ease state where rest comes easily. Hovering also gives me a way to sense and tend to the areas around the body, not only the body itself.

Distance Reiki

And then there is distance Reiki, which takes that same principle of working without direct contact one step further, and is where curiosity (and a little healthy skepticism) tends to peak. In a distance session, we are not in the same room; you might be resting comfortably at home while I hold a dedicated, focused space for you at an agreed-upon time. Reiki, as it is traditionally understood, is not bound by physical proximity; practitioners work with intention and connection to send supportive energy regardless of the distance between us.

I know this is the part that stretches what most of us were taught about how the world works. I simply share what my training and experience have shown me, and let it speak for itself. And what I hear, again and again, is that people drop into the same deep calm, the same softening and sense of being cared for, that they feel in person; sometimes to their own surprise. For folks who are homebound, far away, traveling, or recovering, it can be a gentle and accessible way to receive support.

Whether you are receiving Reiki in person, through resting hands or hovering palms, or from a distance entirely, the heart of it stays the same; a quiet, intentional, caring presence offered in service of your ease.

If you are curious to experience any of these for yourself, in person or from the comfort of home, I would love to welcome you, so feel free to book a session through the link below.
